About the role

As an Automation Engineer at Metso, you’ll play a key role in developing, implementing, and optimizing the robotic solutions that power the company’s automated systems and processes. In this position, you’ll be involved throughout the entire project lifecycle – from design and assembly to installation and commissioning, including on-site work with customers around the world.

Your main focus will be to ensure that PLC, HMI, and related systems operate smoothly, while also contributing to improving existing solutions and creating new functionalities. You’ll work with various software tools to simulate and test machines before they are deployed in real production environments.

Work tasks

• Develop and adapt PLC programs, HMI solutions, and instrument configurations based on project-specific requirements and testing
• Perform machine testing in the workshop and handle commissioning at customer sites. Customer visits may range from short service trips lasting a few days to start-ups that can span several weeks over longer periods
• Create instructions, manuals, and training materials, as well as conduct training sessions for the customer’s technicians and operators
• Work with machine simulations and ensure that PLC programs and related systems are kept up to date
• Support other departments with automation-related information and technical assistance

We are looking for

• Post-secondary education in automation or equivalent work experience
• At least a few years of experience in PLC programming in a Siemens environment
• Excellent command of English, both spoken and written
• Willingness and ability to travel internationally
• Valid driver’s license (B)

It is meritorious if you have

• Experience in robot programming
• Knowledge of Siemens PLC systems
• Experience with Allen-Bradley Rockwell systems
• Experience with simulation tools such as Enterprise Dynamics, Visual Components, or similar
• Experience in R&D projects within automation
