About the role
Katam is a green tech startup founded in 2016 in Lund. They provide the forest sector with data to support operational as well as long-term strategic decisions. By using Computer vision, Artificial intelligence, patented algorithms and Katam’s forestry expertise, forest data is transformed into valuable decision-making facts for their customers around the world. More precise forest management will increase wood volume growth and production yield. These are key components for reducing CO2 net emission and at same time driving business for the global forest industry.
The team works from the office in Lund, where around 20 people are currently based. In addition to the main office in Sweden, Katam also has a growing presence internationally, with local offices both in Brazil and Indonesia.
You are offered
- Real impact in a growing tech company. An opportunity to join a startup that is actually changing how international forestry works using disruptive AI-services. Your decisions will directly impact their operations from day one.
- A role with a dual focus. This is a newly established position where you combine day-to-day team leadership with a practical product-owner mindset, influencing everything from quick process fixes to long-term strategy.
- International teamwork and travel. You will lead and work with teams across the world, with the opportunity to travel to their hubs when needed.
- A tight team in Lund. You will work closely with a smart, resilient, and ambitious team of GIS-engineers and analysts. It’s a fast-paced environment where things change weekly and your presence really makes a difference.
Work tasks
In this role, you will lead the operational lifecycle that turns customer video and images into accurate forest data. You will combine people leadership with a product-owner mindset, taking ownership of their daily operations while driving the transition toward a more automated workflow. This is a role for someone who loves to bring structure to a fast-moving scale-up environment, where you will act as the vital link between software developers, forest analysts, and their customers.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- People Leadership. Lead and coach a growing, international team consisting of 10 forest analysts/GIS-engineers in Sweden and Brazil, as well as 3 internal software and DevOps developers.
- Driving Efficiency. Streamline their operational pipeline by removing friction in the data flow, reducing manual interventions, and improving core efficiency metrics.
- Product Ownership & R&D**.** Act as the product owner for their internal software, translating daily operational needs into clear product specifications and development priorities for the R&D team.
- Cost Management. Take financial responsibility for Operations, focusing on processing and storage costs on AWS.
- Quality Assurance & Model Training. Oversee the training and validation of AI models, making sure the output consistently meets customers' strict accuracy targets.
We are looking for
- Work experience as a Team Lead, Product Manager, or Implementation Consultant within a software, IT, or tech-service environment
- Experience leading teams, with the ability to provide stable leadership in a fast-paced, evolving startup environment
- A strong understanding of software and data workflows, with the ability to translate operational friction into clear product specifications
- Experience with, or a solid understanding of, operational cost structures
- Experience working with distributed or international teams
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken
It is meritorious if you have:
- Experience working in or alongside DevOps and cloud-based environments, specifically AWS
- Experience from a scale-up or previous business growth journey
- A relevant university degree in engineering, computer science or a similar field
To succeed in the role, your personal skills are:
As a person, you are a natural initiative-taker who doesn't wait around for direction. Instead, you have a sharp eye for identifying what truly matters, framing the problem at hand, and moving things forward. You have a genuine drive to improve everything you touch - not to leave a personal mark, but because you clearly see how processes can work better and possess the communication skills to articulate why.
- Stress tolerant
- Resilient and comfortable with change
- Responsible
- Energetic
- Intellectually curious
